Defenders of the Galaxy: Case Study
Samsung Defenders of the Galaxy was originally intended to be just another sales incentive program, but we pushed it to go much further. I got to put my illustration skills to work as the incentive grew into a highly interactive, heavily designed experience that encompassed character design, 3D models, hand-designed mail components and more. Not only did it surprise and delight the clients but it became one of the most beloved and successful campaigns on the Samsung Insider.
THE Defenders ONLINE
Inspired by Munny and other collectible dolls as well as by the world of comic book superheroes, the Defenders program took on a very fun and unique illustration style. The page lived within a long single scroll that zoomed down through deep space, while the site's contents were housed within a fun, technological superhero lair. A user could unlock and customize their hero by choosing their body, boots, helmet, accessory, and of course, their super power.
From deep space, users finally scrolled down into the legendary Hall of Heroes.
As users sold more devices, they unlocked new character pieces. My personal favorite was always the cybernetic gadget hero.
THE DEFENDER FAMILY
THE defenders come alive OFFLINE
I wanted the Defenders Hall of Heroes to come alive for our users, so I designed a special experience for the program's top sellers. The Defenders came to life as 3D-printed models that were hand-painted to match the top sellers original hero choices, and were mailed to the winners along with a Hall of Heroes diorama for their hero figurines to stand on, an official Hall induction letter and a signed and sealed official Samsung Defenders certificate.
